Adult Orthodontics

Adult Airway Orthodontics

There are three types of adults who will most benefit from the Airway Center's approach to orthodontics

  1. Adults who avoided orthodontics:

Some adults never pursued orthodontic treatment because they were told it required extracting permanent teeth or shaving them down for alignment. This deterred many who didn't want to lose their permanent teeth. Today, we can develop the upper arch to resolve crowding effectively, and in most cases keeping all permanent teeth intact.

  1. Adults with past orthodontic and TMJ issues:

Others previously underwent retractive orthodontic treatments, such as extractions, headgear, or Class 2 elastics, and now suffer from TMJ issues, pain, or sleep problems. the goal of these treatments was to straighten the teeth and that is exactly what they did, we can appreciate that these previous treatments were the best options available at the time. However, methods have advanced. Current techniques are more physiologically friendly, focusing on arch development, which can alleviate TMJ compression, jaw muscle sensitivity,

  1. Adults with general health issues:

The third group consists of adults facing common health problems like headaches, fatigue, brain fog, poor sleep, depression, chronic stress, anxiety, and weight gain. These symptoms may be linked to oxygen deficiency and poor sleep quality. Often, an undiagnosed oxygen-related sleep disorder is the missing piece of the puzzle. We screen patients for these disorders refer when indicated and offer FDA cleared mandibular advancement devices worn at night when clinically indicated .

We have successfully treated patients up to 74 years old with healthy teeth and gums using our method to develop the arches and FDA cleared mandibular advancement devices to increase air flow, and achieve a straight, wide, and beautiful smile. For some patients the treatment process involves wearing removable airway appliances for 6+ months, followed by braces or clear aligners to finalize tooth and bite alignment and retainers worn at night for many years to maintain alignment as with all orthodontic treatment. For other patient referral to a sleep physician, ENT or a prescribed mandibular advancement device is the next step.

" We saw a lot of crowding and assumed braces were the only way to go, we had two or three consultations and most of them wanted to pull teeth before braces, my mother bear instinct didn't want that to happen his teeth were healthy there was no reason to pull them out....we didn't need to pull anything! "

Al Borromeo ( Dentist)

" Dentists need to know that there are other options out there as opposed to pulling teeth."

Grateful Patient

" My smile is so much wider and I have more definition in my jaw line that others are noticing, but most importantly my daily headaches are gone because my jaw is relaxed!"
