What does Arch Development involve?
Have you ever noticed how many kids today have crowded teeth and impacted wisdom teeth? Or how many adults suffer from TMJ disorders? Orthodontic treatments can have positive impacts on these problems by adopting an orthodontic approach that enhances the development of the arches. This can have positive effects on tongue space and function, in the process of creating space for permanent teeth to form a healthy, functional and beautiful smile.
Treatment approaches vary, and we focus on non extraction and arch development strategies when clinically appropriate. Arch Development Orthodontics utilizes removable appliances that encourage sagittal and lateral arch development of both the upper and lower arches.
Some clinicians and patients observe improvements in oral posture and comfort. Airway and breathing concerns should be evaluated and managed in coordination with appropriate medical providers.
When appropriate, we may recommend collaboration with other providers such as a myofunctional therapist, physical therapist, ENT, pediatrician, sleep physician, or primary care provider. This team-based approach helps make sure concerns outside the dental or orthodontic scope are evaluated by the appropriate medical professionals.
